Anyone for frisbee?

Well todays blog was going to be about something completely different but events have taken over. This might be more of a rant. This week I was contacted by one of my galleries (no longer on my list of galleries). Two of my paintings had had an accident! Apparently the wire had broken on one of them. To be clear the painting weighed .8kg and the wire was rated to hold 5kg so this is very strange. The second painting I was told had come away from the frame as the customer brought it to the counter. Again it seemed odd and not usual for customers to be handling the paintings.

I went to the gallery in question and was told a different story one wire had broken and the second painting had also fallen (although the wire on this one was still intact). This made more sense as the corner was damaged as if it had fallen and it was that which may have caused the painting to come loose from the frame. I decided to check my other paintings and found 8 out of 9 frames damaged. Some of them I will be able to repair but 3 will need to be replaced. I am truly shocked that they would be damaged like this, some of them were dented and damaged in 3 different places! What were they doing? Using them as frisbees?? This gallery was so promising however it just goes to show that just because it looks promising it doesn't mean your work will be treated with care and respect.

If you are unaware the gallery takes a large % of the price you see when they make a sale. I have no problem with that if the work is respected. They have to pay GST of 15% on anything they sell, they pay for the space and the staff and the lighting and insurance. Plus they do the 'sales' thing! My other galleries have been brilliant and I have never suffered any damage on any of my pieces and they have sold very well. I think what really upsets me is that these battered, dusty paintings with coffee splashes on them were sat on a shelf still for sale with my name next them. How embarrassing that people would think I would be happy showing my work like that!

I have emailed to ask for compensation for the damage. Lets see what happens!

Wish me luck!
