Following on from the damaged frames last month....well I contacted the relevant manager who went away and investigated what might have happened. I was asked to submit and invoice for the damage (which I did) and I was paid promptly. Obviously I would rather that the damage had not occurred but I am relieved that the gallery did the right thing and paid me compensation. I also received an apology which I did appreciate.

Soooo, this month I have applied to another gallery to see if I can hang my work with them. Getting in to a gallery is nerve wracking. There is a lot of competition! I have been rejected from galleries before and although you try not to take it personally it is hard not to. There may be many reasons why I may be rejected, the gallery may be full, they may have an artist who already paints similar subjects or similar style. The gallery owner may have different taste or they might think that would find it difficult to sell. It is important that the gallery loves your work or they will never be able to sell it.  Wall space is $ for a gallery so they need to know the paintings they hang will bring in the dollars.

Its also important that the artist likes the gallery. I recently did a trip to have a look at a number of galleries near where I live. There are a few but the ones that I would actually want to hang in are few and far between. I visited the galleries to have a look at the kind of work they have on display. I considered if the work was well lit, clean, uncluttered, could my work be a good fit or was it clear that the gallery was after something completely different (ie if they are more in to abstract). What were the staff like? 

Hopefully I will find a gallery that I am happy with that would be willing to work with me. In the mean time I am just grateful for the representation I have who have done a fantastic job of finding people who love my work.

Keep your fingers crossed for me as I wait with baited breath to see if I will be accepted in to this one!!
